Essays Describing the World According to Tom Butler There may be some value in your knowing what I think. What I think to be true is not so important but knowing that I have at least momentarily arrived at a particular viewpoint as a result of my etheric studies may help you avoid retracing old steps, and enable you to build on the past with your own realizations. Efforts to describe my view of reality have proven to be a series of snapshots capturing what I thought was true at that time. Some of the old views remain valid for me, and so it seems worthwhile to retain the essays in this collection. It is even possible that an older essay might be contradicted by one of the newer views. If so, then you see learning in action. The Cosmology of Imaginary Space The Mandelbrot Set may give us a better model for the cosmology of reality than the usual "layer cake" models. An attempt to provide a conceptual blueprint to how we manifest our personal reality. Comments on the implications of John 14 in the Bible The words of Jesus, as portrayed in John 14, provide a profound lesson in the nature of our reality. I have made line-by-line comments that point to the relationship of his teachings to the metaphysical concepts. Not If But What If - A Cosmology The current discussion amongst established religious leaders and members of the scientific community, concerning physical reality and God, has little formative impact on people who believe in continuation of life after physical death. Broadening this discussion to include nonphysical reality presents opportunities to develop new tools for personal growth. Emphasis should be on changing the perspective of metaphysical research from seeking to determine if the concepts are valid, to evaluating the results of their conditional acceptance. Key to this is the normalization of metaphysical terminology and concepts to emphasis natural phenomena rather than religious doctrine. A consensus cosmology is presented as an example. This "Standard Cosmology" has been designed as a predictive hypothesis to be tested and refined through evaluation of relevant personal experiences. It is essential that we understand the difference between hoping that something will happen and intending that it will. Here, I address the metaphysical perspective of personal confidence. A brief discussion about the nature of spiritual or etheric energy we receive, differentiate and emanate into our environment. Cornerstones of Spiritual Maturity - The Power of Words We manage the operation of Natural Law with our thoughts and their subsequent words. In this essay, I address the relationship of several Principles of Natural Law to our interaction with others. ŠTom Butler 1999 This Principle of Natural Law has important influence on our ability to communicate with Spirit. I attempt to provide a foundation on which you might develop mediumistic skills. This essay has been written as a talk to a Spiritualist Church congregation. I believe you will find it an interesting discussion on the foundations of metaphysical belief. An essay on the nature of worldview and its impact on the creation of personal reality. |
